The Swashakthi Organization for Persons with Disabilities (OPD) recently held an engaging entertainment programme at the Bosath Temple premises in the Hingurakgoda Division, Polonnaruwa District. This event was organised in collaboration with an Elders Society - a Community Based Organization (CBO) under the FAIRMED initiative for the OPD – CBO joint programmes.

Organization for Persons with Disabilities Joint Programme with Community Based Organization
Integrated screening in the Puwakgahaulpotha Village - Kottapitiya PHI Area, Elahara
An integrated screening programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) along with a dental clinic was conducted on 25th of July 2024 in the Puwakgahaulpotha village belonging to the Kottapitiya PHI Area in the Elahera Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Division. The screening programme was coordinated by the MOH staff and especially with Mr. Chamupathi Dharmasena who is the Public Health Inspector for the Kottapitiya area. The screening programme was conducted with the support of the Regional Epidemiologist, the Medical Officer of Health, 01 Dental Surgeon, 01 Public Health Nursing Sister, 04 Public Health Inspectors, 02 Public Health Midwives along with 03 supporting staff from the MOH office. The programme was supported by FAIRMED Sri Lanka.
Awareness Programme - Stafford International School
An awareness programme on leprosy was conducted for the teachers of Stafford International School belonging to the D3 MOH office of Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) on the 17th of November 2021. The programme was conducted by the Public Health Inspector for Leprosy of the CMC along with the FAIRMED Project Officer in the CMC.
Awareness Programme - Pest Control Office
An awareness programme on leprosy was conducted on the 16th of November 2021 for the office staff of the Pest Control Office in the D3 MOH area of the CMC. The programme was conducted with the support of the PHI- Leprosy CMC along with the FAIRMED Project Officer in the CMC.
Ring Survey - Delgoda, Kalawana
A ring survey was conducted in the Delgoda village of the Kalawana Medical Officer of Health area of the district of Ratnapura on the 29th of October 2021. All the participants were screened and made aware of skin diseases including leprosy during this survey. The survey was conducted by the Medical Officer of Health and a doctor from the base hospital of Kalawana with the support of the SPHI, PHI- Leprosy, two nurses from the base hospital and the Project Officer of Ratnapura for FAIRMED Foundation.
Ring Survey - Kaduwanatta, Ratnapura
A ring survey was conducted in the Kaduwanatta village of the Elapatha Medical Officer of Health area of the district of Ratnapura on the 27th of October 2021. All the participants were screened and made aware of skin diseases including leprosy during this survey. The survey was conducted by the Medical Officer of Health and the additional Medical Officer of Health with the support of the PHI- Leprosy, range PHI, a Public Health Midwife and the Project Officer of Ratnapura for the FAIRMED Foundation.
Ring Survey - 17th Mile Post
A ring survey was conducted in the 17th Mile Post village of the Hingurakgoda Medical Officer of Health area of the Polonnaruwa District on the 13th of October 2021. All the participants were screened and made aware of skin diseases including Leprosy during this survey. The survey was conducted by the Regional Epidemiologist with the support of the staff of the Regional Epidemiology unit, PHI Leprosy, Range PHIs, and the FAIRMED Project Officer in the Polonnaruwa District.
Ring Survey- Track 5 Village
A ring survey was conducted in the Track 5 village of the Medirigiriya Medical Officer of Health area of the Polonnaruwa District on the 09th of October 2021. All participants were screened and made aware of skin diseases including leprosy during this survey. The survey was conducted with the support of Staff of the Regional Epidemiology unit, PHI- Leprosy, Range PHI, PHIs and the FAIRMED Project Officer from the Polonnaruwa district
Ring Survey - Damanewewa Village
A ring survey was conducted in the Damanewewa village of the Siripura Medical Officer of Health area of the Polonnaruwa District on the 11th of October 2021. All the participants were screened and made aware of skin diseases including Leprosy during this survey. The survey was conducted by the Regional Epidemiologist with the support of the staff of the Regional Epidemiology unit, PHI Leprosy, Range PHIs, and the FAIRMED Project Officer in the Polonnaruwa District.
