DELFT Medical Screening

 

The need for comprehensive health screening programmes for marginalized groups was identified in the yearly plan and the first screening programme was conducted for the population in Delft Island. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Jaffna District Health Authorities on the 14th & 15th of February 2023.

 

The integrated screening programme for NCDs and NTDs along with a dental clinic and a well-woman clinic was conducted for the total population in Delft Island. The screening programme was spearheaded by Dr A. Ketheeswaran, Regional Director of Health Services, Jaffna and conducted with the support of 09 Medical Officers, 02 Dental Surgeons, 01 Public Health Nursing Sister, 17 PHIs and 16 PHMs. Much-needed assistance was given during the programme by the Divisional Secretary, Mr F.C. Sathiyasothy and Dr T.N.K. Suriyaarachchi, Medical Officer of the Divisional Hospital in Delft.

 

98% of the households on the island were visited, and among them, 86.5% of household members were screened, which could be considered a great success.
