To commemorate the World Leprosy Day 2020, the Polonnaruwa District conducted a Special Programme at the Main Auditorium of the RDHS Office. The programme was conducted to assure the qualitative factors affecting the Persons Affected with Leprosy.
This programme was initiated by the RDHS, Polonnaruwa and was attended by the Director of the Anti-Leprosy Campaign and the Consultant Community Physician.
'World Leprosy Day' falls on the last Sunday of January. To commemorate this special day, the Polonnaruwa District organised a drama to be presented to the public targeting the weekly 'Pola'. This programme was held at the Agro- Based Economic center in Welikanda and Public Market in Polonnaruwa. The programme was carried out to increase awareness as well as to reduce the stigma and discrimination regarding leprosy.
A special training programme on Leprosy was held at the Auditorium of the Balangoda Base Hospital on 29th January 2020 for the public health staff of the Balangoda, Imbulpe and Weligepola MOH areas.
A training programme was conducted for the Public Health Midwives (PHM) and the Health Instructors (HI) of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area at the Millennium Centre (New Town Hall) Auditorium on January 22nd 2020.
To commemorate the World Leprosy Day 2019 various programmes have been organized by the FAIRMED supported districts namely Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura and the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), under the theme of "Ending discrimination, stigma and prejudice in Leprosy”.
An overseas training on Leprosy was provided for a group of eleven (11) Medical Officers and Public Health Inspectors from the Ratnapura and Polonnaruwa districts and the Clombo Municipal Council (CMC).
On the 1st May 2018 FAIRMED FOUNDATION has renewed the agreement signed with the SLMA with few modifications to the agreement. According to the new agreement both Sri Lankan medical and non-medical individuals can apply for research grants through the SLMA.
In order to commemorate the Leprosy Day 2018, different activities have been organized by the districts assisted by FAIRMED FOUNDATION.
National Leprosy Day 2017 was commemorated at the Health Education Bureau of the Ministry of Health. The event was themed "A Leprosy Free Sri Lanka by 2020" and was held under the auspices of Dr.Jayasundara Bandara, Director General Of Health Services
