Leprosy Day 2019
To commemorate the World Leprosy Day 2019 various programmes have been organized by the FAIRMED supported districts namely Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura and the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), under the theme of "Ending discrimination, stigma and prejudice in Leprosy”.
An Inter school art competition and an art exhibition were held in the Deepa Uyana, Polonnaruwa on the 29th January 2019. This was organized by the Regional Directorate of Health Services- Polonnaruwa with the participation of 120 students from different schools in the Polonnaruwa district to commemorate the World Leprosy Day 2019. The theme of the art competition was "Ending discrimination, stigma and prejudice in Leprosy”. The winners were selected under primary, junior and senior categories and the cash prizes were awarded for 3 winners selected from each category.
An awareness programme on Leprosy, under the theme ‘Ending discrimination, stigma and prejudice’ was conducted on the 31st January 2019 for the children and teachers of the Kuruwita Central College. The programme was conducted by the Consultant Dermatologist- Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, Regional Epidemiologist and organized by the Regional Directorate of Health Services- Ratnapura together with the Kuruwita Office of the Medical Officer of Health.
Colombo Municipal Council (CMC)
A press conference was held at the Colombo Municipal Council Committee room on the 7th February 2019 with the participation of the Deputy Mayor of Colombo Municipal Council, Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Deputy Medical Officer of Health (DCMOH), Director- Anti-Leprosy Campaign, Consultant Community Physician of Anti-Leprosy Campaign, the Country Coordinator of FAIRMED Sri Lanka and the media personnel from different media channels and newspapers.
